Non-Filers to Explain Position Before Travel Ban

Income tax non-filers will be given an opportunity to defend their point of view before their ability to travel overseas is restricted.

The minister also mentioned that if a spouse is dependent on the taxpayer, a statement of foreign assets and spouse's assets must include an explanation in accordance with Section 116 of the Income Tax Ordinance of 2001.

Moreover, non-filers will be penalised appropriately by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) if they consistently file late returns.

The amount of the fine will rise if the non-filer has not even once filed the income tax return by the deadline.

It is important to note that the federal government has suggested banning non-filers from travelling overseas in order to increase tax enforcement against them.
