How to check if you are on FBR SIM block list?

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is strongly against tax evasion by blocking the mobile phone SIM cards of individuals who haven't filed their income tax returns for 2023. This move aims to encourage more people to comply with their tax obligations.

How to Check if Your SIM Card is at Risk

Are you worried your SIM might be blocked? Here's how to find out:

  1. Visit this link https://download1.fbr.gov.pk/Docs/20244301945430648FinalITGO.pdf

  2. Use the "Ctrl+F" function to search the list.

  3. Enter your full name or CNIC number.

Why is the FBR Taking This Action?

The FBR identified over 500,000 individuals eligible to file tax returns but haven't registered as active taxpayers. This Income Tax General Order (ITGO) is authorized under section 114B of the Income Tax Ordinance (2001). To expedite enforcement, the FBR directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and mobile network operators to begin blocking 5,000 SIM cards daily.

Challenges and Concerns

Initially, the PTA and telecom companies expressed concerns about the practicality and fairness of this measure. For example, blocking SIM cards registered under men's names could disproportionately affect women. Additionally, the current system allows non-filers to obtain new SIM cards, potentially undermining the effectiveness of the process.

Looking Ahead

The FBR's initiative to block SIM cards of tax evaders signifies a significant step towards ensuring tax compliance. While initial challenges existed, the cooperation of telecom companies paves the way for successful implementation. We recommend checking the FBR list and filing your tax returns to avoid SIM card blockage and become a responsible taxpayer.
